Abstract: Presents analysis of observations of relationships between observed phytoplankton pigment and optical properties, including spectral ratios of upwelled water-leaving radiance and spectral diffuse attenuation coefficients. Results are based on observations from over 500 bio-optical stations from cruises to Arctic (two) and Antarctic (three). Predictive relationships for remote sensing applications and models for light attenuation in ocean are developed and compared statistically to previous observations for temperate oceans.
