Abstract: Examines preference of Lepus americanus for twigs of two winter forage plants: chemically defended Populus balsamifera and comparatively less defended Salix glauca. Uses optimal foraging model explicitly incorporating effects of secondary plant chemicals to predict foraging preferences.
