Record #118784:
Frost heave and creep in the Sør Rondane Mountains, Antarctica / Norikazu Matsuoka, Kiichi Moriwaki.
Title: | Frost heave and creep in the Sør Rondane Mountains, Antarctica / Norikazu Matsuoka, Kiichi Moriwaki. |
Author(s): | Matsuoka, Norikazu. Moriwaki, Kiichi. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | Arctic and Alpine Research. (1992.), Vol. 24(4) (1992) |
Abstract: | Presents results from five-year study at three sites in this extreme environment where diurnal frost action occurs only at midsummer. Arid climate minimizes frost action, no matter how deep ground thaws. Significant frost action and creep usually take place after water content of ground is >5% and thaw penetrates deeper than 7 cm: here, maximum thaw penetration was at 3.4 mm. |
Notes: | Arctic and Alpine Research. Vol. 24(4) :271-280 (1992). |
Keywords: | 551.34 -- Geocryology. Frozen ground. 551.343 -- Periglacial processes. Thermokarst. E8 -- Glaciology: frost action and permafrost. (*7) -- Antarctic regions. (*73) -- Dronning Maud Land. (*734.3) -- Sor-Rondane. |
