Record #118780:
Large-scale thermal bending fracture of sea ice plates / Zdeněk P. Bažant.
Title: | Large-scale thermal bending fracture of sea ice plates / Zdeněk P. Bažant. |
Author(s): | Bažant, Zdeněk P. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1992.), Vol. 97(C11) (1992) |
Abstract: | Examines hypothesis that large-scale fracture of sea-ice plates in Arctic could be caused by release of energy of thermal bending moments due to major temperature changes. Attention is focused mainly on size effect, in order to deduce whether such fractures might be more likely in thinner plates. Analytical solution is preferred for better insight and understanding of problem, rather than numerical solution through use of finite element method. |
