Record #118775:

Organic micropollutants in Arctic snow and firn / Denis J. Gregor.

Title: Organic micropollutants in Arctic snow and firn / Denis J. Gregor.
Author(s): Gregor, Denis J.
Date: 1992.
Publisher: Hamilton, Ontario: McMaster University, Department of Geography
In: Arctic environment : past, present & future. (1992.),
Abstract: Focuses on organochlorine pesticides (OCs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Reviews previous work on their detection in snow, and discusses effect of snowmelt. Despite extensive work on use of ice cores for monitoring pollutant trends for such concerns as acid deposition and climate change, research on record of micropollutant deposition retained in ice caps has been limited. Data from Agassiz Ice Cap, Ellesmere Island, suggests that OC residues are largely dependent on meteorologic conditions. PCB deposition appears to have decreased since 1970.
