Abstract: Ablation on Greenland ice sheet can be calculated either from degree-day factor or by energy balance model. Problems are that former varies with time and space, and latter requires data which are often not available. Solution is to understand, and possibly predict, variations in degree-day factor by sensitivity experiments with energy balance model and field studies of ablation in widely varying climate conditions.
