A glaciological throttle on fresh water input to the North Atlantic Ocean during glacial climates / Douglas R. MacAyeal, Hailing Wang.
Title: | A glaciological throttle on fresh water input to the North Atlantic Ocean during glacial climates / Douglas R. MacAyeal, Hailing Wang. |
Author(s): | MacAyeal, Douglas R. Wang, Hailing. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1992.), Vol. 73(43, fall meeting supplement) (1992) |
Abstract: | Abstract only. Short, rapidly initiated and irregularly occurring cold episodes punctuate palaeoclimate record during glacial periods. Cause appears to be linked to anomalous fresh-water input to North Atlantic. Presents mechanism whereby fresh-water input is throttled by ice-sheet dynamics associated with ice flow through Hudson Strait. This would explain features of these episodes. Model experiments suggest two possible ice-sheet flow configurations in Hudson Bay/Strait region of Laurentide ice sheet. |
