Determination of the water content of snow by dielectric measurements / Paul R. Camp, David R. LaBrecque.
Title: | Determination of the water content of snow by dielectric measurements / Paul R. Camp, David R. LaBrecque. |
Author(s): | Camp, Paul R. LaBrecque, David R. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | CRREL Special Report. (1992.), Vol. 92-18 (1992) |
Abstract: | Measurements made in frequency range of 50 Hz to 100 kHz. Dielectric heating at 20 kHz proved useful means of modifying water content from 0 to 30% by weight. Six natural snows were used for experiment, and meltwater was analyzed for conductivity, pH and impurity content. In addition to developing information on dielectric properties of wet and dry snow, changes produced in dry snow by altering density over range of 0.11 to 0.66 g cm⁻³ were measured. Results did not support use of method in this frequency range alone for determination of water content. |
