Abstract: Investigation of nature of gas trapping in polar ice. Discusses factors which influence distribution of air in firn today, based on suite of ice cores taken from Greenland and Antarctica. This information is used to estimate how air may have mixed in firn. Upper and lower limits of Δ age for Vostok, Dome C, and Byrd ice cores are then calculated, and results compared with estimates. Finally, CO₂ and surface temperature records from Byrd and Vostok over last 30 ka are compared to provide independent means of establishing best estimate of Δ age for Vostok during glacial termination.
