Boundary element analysis of macrocracking of ice in a large test basin / R.W. Marcellus, A. Prodanovic, Kenneth R. Croasdale.
Title: | Boundary element analysis of macrocracking of ice in a large test basin / R.W. Marcellus, A. Prodanovic, Kenneth R. Croasdale. |
Author(s): | Marcellus, R. W. Prodanovic, A. Croasdale, Kenneth R. |
Date: | 1992. |
Publisher: | Southampton: Computational Mechanics Publications |
In: | Advances in Ice Technology : proceedings of the Third International Conference on Ice Technology (ITC 92) held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A., during 11-13 August 1992. (1992.), |
Abstract: | Describes crack which developed and propagated across ice sheet as consequence of load imbalance. Presents results of boundary element analysis of portion of conditions under which crack formed. It was initiated and propagated from corners of ice-pressure panel which was inclined at 45° to principal stress direction. Primary cause of crack propagation was poor bonding between panel and ice. Analysis illustrates use of technique for analyzing large-scale fracture in ice. |
