Abstract: Little is known about magnitude of this problem with reference to naval vessels. Purpose of paper is to demonstrate methodology to predict icing of particular types of naval vessels in specific regions. Spray data, gathered during sea trials were used to identify ship motion thresholds which were linked with production of bow spray. Strip theory ship motion predictions were combined with wave and temperature statistics to predict topside icing.
