Record #118266:

A sensitivity study for modelling ice temperatures in Jakobshavns-Isbrae, Greenland / K. Fabri, M. Funk, Almut Iken.

Title: A sensitivity study for modelling ice temperatures in Jakobshavns-Isbrae, Greenland / K. Fabri, M. Funk, Almut Iken.
Author(s): Fabri, K.
Funk, M.
Iken, Almut.
Date: 1992.
Publisher: Zürich: Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich
Abstract: Steady-state two-dimensional model was developed for calculating englacial temperatures at depth (2500 m) beyond range of bore-hole drill used for recent measurements of ice temperatures. Model combines calculation of ice flow with solution of heat-transfer equation. It allows for reasonable distribution of flow velocities with depth and for development of temperate basal layer of finite thickness. Since input for model (geometry and thermal and dynamic conditions at bed and at surface) is only approximately known or estimated, it has to be varied over uncertain range and effect observed on englacial temperatures. Text in English and German; appendices in German.
