Record #118252:

The relation between SAR imagery and regional sea ice ridging characteristics from BEPERS-88 / M. Similä, M. Leppäranta, H.B. Granberg, J.E. Lewis.

Title: The relation between SAR imagery and regional sea ice ridging characteristics from BEPERS-88 / M. Similä, M. Leppäranta, H.B. Granberg, J.E. Lewis.
Author(s): Similä, M.

Lewis, J. E.
Date: 1992.
In: International Journal of Remote Sensing. (1992.), Vol. 13(13) (1992)
Abstract: Simultaneous airborne laser profiles and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images were obtained simultaneously over pack ice in Bay of Bothnia. Possibility of mapping ice ridges using SAR was analyzed. SAR intensity histograms and ridging statistics were compared in regions with length scales from 3 to 23 km. Intensity of ridging was based on number of ridges and mean ridge height. Results show that, from SAR intensity distribution, average of 10% upper tail divided by overall average is good predictor for intensity, and explains 80 to 90% of variance.
