Record #117996:

Theoretical calving rates from glaciers along ice walls grounded in water of variable depths / Terence J. Hughes.

Title: Theoretical calving rates from glaciers along ice walls grounded in water of variable depths / Terence J. Hughes.
Author(s): Hughes, Terence J.
Date: 1992.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1992.), Vol. 38(129) (1992)
Abstract: Develops theory and attempts to relate slab calving from ice walls to tabular calving from ice shelves. Derives calving law in which calving rates from walls are controlled by bending creep behind wall, and depend on wall height, forward bending angle, crevasse distance behind wall, and depth of water in front. Reasonable agreement with calving rates previously reported for Alaskan tidewater glaciers is obtained.
