Abstract: | Sea-ice beams with cracks prepared with hand-held scalpel and then aged weakened after 280 h. This result is inconsistent with crack tip that blunts with age. Extension of crack tip was not observed. Suggests that technique used to form microcrack may create crack associated with dislocation distribution that shields it. |
