| Abstract: | Annual winter festivities in Ottawa on ice of Dows Lake, originally constructed as reservoir for Rideau Canal, involve considerable load being carried by ice, which, in 1985, caused deflection of ice and flooding, leading to cancellation of forthcoming concert. After this, it was decided to carry out systematic series of tests to evaluate load-carrying capacity of this lake ice. Results and recommendations for future occasions are presented. |
