Abstract: Natural first-year columnar-grained Arctic sea ice was tested under uniaxial compressive stress applied normal to length of columns. Constant-load creep experiments were performed in stress range from 0.7 to 2.5 MPa at three temperatures (263, 253, 243 K). Axial strain was measured in conjunction with measurements of lateral strains and acoustic emissions. One-to-one correspondence was shown between previous data on dependence of compressive strength on strain rate under constant specimen strain rate and present results obtained on dependence of minimum creep rate on stress under constant stress.
