Theoretical approach to physical modelling of kinetic friction between ice and snow / Seppo Liukkonen.
Title: | Theoretical approach to physical modelling of kinetic friction between ice and snow / Seppo Liukkonen. |

Abstract: | Presents theory of kinetic friction between ice and icebreaker. Friction force between ice and ship has three components: grooving, water-drop adhesion, and viscous shear of meltwater film between surface. Theory is verified on full and model scales and explains parameter dependencies of friction coefficient. Shows complete modelling to be impossible with present technique, based on Froude's law of similitude, because of viscous component of friction force and dependencies of friction coefficient on scale-dependent parameters. |
