Dynamics of a moored structure model in ice / F.M. Williams, Dat Duthinh, C. Valenchon.

Title: Dynamics of a moored structure model in ice / F.M. Williams, Dat Duthinh, C. Valenchon.
Author(s): Williams, F. M.
Duthinh, Dat.
Valenchon, C.
Date: 1992.
Publisher: New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
In: Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering - 1992. Presented ... Calgary, Alberta, Canada, June 7-12, 1992. Vol. 4 - Arctic/polar technology. (1992.),
Abstract: In ice tank studies, response of floating moored structure with vertical sides to loads applied by drifting ice showed either sawtooth mode at lower ice velocities or harmonic mode at higher velocities. Largest amplitudes of structural response occur in sawtooth mode, and test data are examined to determine conditions in which this occurs. From analysis of second-order system, dynamic response coefficient is defined which provides criterion. Analysis is general and applies also to response of fixed structures.
