Abstract: | In ice tank studies, response of floating moored structure with vertical sides to loads applied by drifting ice showed either sawtooth mode at lower ice velocities or harmonic mode at higher velocities. Largest amplitudes of structural response occur in sawtooth mode, and test data are examined to determine conditions in which this occurs. From analysis of second-order system, dynamic response coefficient is defined which provides criterion. Analysis is general and applies also to response of fixed structures. |
