Abstract: Presents essential thermal analyses required for foundation design in permafrost regions, including equations for calculating ground surface temperature and temperature variation in soil. Foundation design on piles and on grade are discussed, and design methods (thermosyphons and air ducts) for control of frozen ground are described.
