Seasonal ice cover variability in a coupled ice--ocean model for the Arctic Ocean / Sirpa Häkkinen, George L. Mellor.

Title: Seasonal ice cover variability in a coupled ice--ocean model for the Arctic Ocean / Sirpa Häkkinen, George L. Mellor.
Author(s): Häkkinen, Sirpa.
Mellor, George L.
Date: 1992.
Publisher: New York: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
In: Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering - 1992. Presented ... Calgary, Alberta, Canada, June 7-12, 1992. Vol. 4 - Arctic/polar technology. (1992.),
Abstract: Uses numerical model consisting of fully prognostic primitive-equation ocean model and ice model described as single slab. Ice thermodynamics are described by three-level snow--ice system similar to Semtner's (1976) scheme, with modifications to account for leads. Modelled area covers Arctic Ocean and Greenland, Iceland, Norwegian and Barents seas. Discusses results from simulation with monthly wind climatology, perpetual year 1987 with daily wind forcing, and from 16-year simulation (1955-70) using daily varying winds. Largest variability takes place in East Siberian and Chukchi seas, and north of Canadian archipelago and of Greenland.
