Abstract: Foraminiferal and ostracode assemblages in late glacial and early post-glacial sediments show that proglacial lake preceded Champlain Sea in some parts, and that Champlain Sea was in contact with Laurentide ice sheet during deglaciation of other parts of lowland. Glaciolacustrine and glaciomarine environments were followed by high-salinity marine environments. Beginning of Champlain Sea is placed at 11.6 to 11.4 ka BP on basis of radiocarbon dates for arrival of salt-water wedge.
