Record #117676:

Creep of Alpine permafrost, investigated on the Murtel rock glacier / Stephan Wagner.

Title: Creep of Alpine permafrost, investigated on the Murtel rock glacier / Stephan Wagner.
Author(s): Wagner, Stephan.
Date: 1992.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1992.), Vol. 3(2) (1992)
Abstract: Presents and analyzes bore-hole and surface deformation measurements from active rock glacier. Found to consist of two layers, behaving differently. Upper layer, 28 m in depth, is mainly massive ice. Lower layer (32 to 50 m) consists of coarse blocks with ice-filled pores. Transition zone between layers. Upper layer undergoes steady-state creep (5.5 to 6.0 cm a⁻¹), overriding non-deforming lower layer of saturated permafrost. 75% of deformation takes place in weak transitional zone.
