| Abstract: | Describes briefly present geomorphology, ice cover, vegetation and history of discovery of island. Gives details of pollen analysis, radio-carbon dating of remains of large mammals, excavations of human settlements especially faunal remains, and from these reconstructs palaeoenvironment, vegetation, palaeogeography and human activity. Data obtained during 1987-90. |
