| Abstract: | Analyzes data on number and density of brown bears for last 30 years and reveals dramatic increase. Examines reasons for density variations in different regions, protection measures and methods of hunting. Reviews systematics of brown bear in USSR, identifying eight to nine sub-species based mainly on skull size and geographical distribution. |
