Abstract: Abstract only. Statistical examination of relationship between two populations of normal and surge-type glaciers and various glacier and environmental characteristics. Analysis is performed for 615 ice masses in Svalbard. Importance of two-layered structure in glacier and nature of bedrock geology were predominant factors in surging.
