| Abstract: | Preliminary chronology for occurrence of soot balls (carbonated spherules) in sediments was established by study of varved sediments from five localities. Chronology is in good agreement with historically known consumption of coal and oil in Finland. Chronology was assumed to be valid generally for sediment cores from southern Finland and used as control for ²¹⁰Pb dating from same cores. Some anomalous results are discussed. |
