Distribution of mean δ¹⁸O values of surface snow layers and their dependence on air temperature in Enderby Land--east Queen Maud Land, Antarctica / Kazuhide Satow, Okitsugu Watanabe.
Title: | Distribution of mean δ¹⁸O values of surface snow layers and their dependence on air temperature in Enderby Land--east Queen Maud Land, Antarctica / Kazuhide Satow, Okitsugu Watanabe. |
Author(s): | Satow, Kazuhide. Watanabe, Okitsugu. |
Date: | 1992. |
In: | National Institute of Polar Research. Proceedings of the NIPR Symposium on Polar Meteorology and Glaciology. (1992.), Vol. 5 (1992) |
Abstract: | δ¹⁸O values decrease linearly with elevation, distance from coast, and, especially, mean annual surface temperatures in temperature range from -20 to -55°C. Relationship with temperature is similar to that derived from simple model in which air mass is progressively cooled under Rayleigh conditions as it moves inland. This suggests that δ¹⁸O values are closely related to condensation temperature at top of inversion layer where snowfall precipitation is formed. |
