Record #116913:

Subglacial floods and the origin of low-relief ice-sheet lobes / E.M. Shoemaker.

Title: Subglacial floods and the origin of low-relief ice-sheet lobes / E.M. Shoemaker.
Author(s): Shoemaker, E. M.
Date: 1992.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1992.), Vol. 38(128) (1992)
Abstract: Probable genesis of lobes is episodic subglacial floods (jökulhlaups) which occur as water sheets hundreds of kilometres wide. Before termination, when flood discharge is large, average thickness of water sheet beneath Lake Michigan lobe exceeded 1 m and reached thicknesses >6 m. Release of part of basal shear stress during this period produced elongation of lobe of tens of kilometres.
