Taloudellisesta mielenkiinnosta Ruotsi-Suomen Lappiin 1700-luvun kirjallisuudesta / Seija Virkkula.

Title: Taloudellisesta mielenkiinnosta Ruotsi-Suomen Lappiin 1700-luvun kirjallisuudesta / Seija Virkkula.
Translated title: Economic interest in Lapland 18th Century literature of Sweden-Finland.
Author(s): Virkkula, Seija.
Date: 1991.
Language: Finnish.
In: Faravid. (1991.), Vol. 15 (1991)
Abstract: Shefferus's "Lapponia", 1674, was long used for information on economy of Lapland. Swedish "Göta" historiography aimed in mercantile way to show wealth of Lapland and wellbeing of inhabitants. Some saw Saami survival as near-miracle, akin to sorcery, while others thought they did no more than necessary. One criticised Swedish treatment of Lapps, others described nature and cultivation in Tornio valley. After defeat in wars, Sweden had to intensify agriculture. Poor state of Saami fitted theory in which all economic development was for better. In eastern Lapland, Hellander at Utsjoki and others had strong doubts about improvement, and wild game was running out.
