Record #115820:

Expermental melting of hydrous low-K tholeiite: evidence on the origin of Archaean cratons / K. Tobias Winther, Robert C. Newton.

Title: Expermental melting of hydrous low-K tholeiite: evidence on the origin of Archaean cratons / K. Tobias Winther, Robert C. Newton.
Author(s): Winther, K. Tobias.
Newton, Robert C.
Date: 1991.
In: Geological Society of Denmark. Bulletin. (1991.), Vol. 39(3-4) (1991)
Abstract: Melting studies were performed on natural high-Al basalt and synthetic average Archaean tholeiite (0.3%K₂O) with varying amounts of H₂O. Microprobe analyses of quenched melts showed that typical Archaean tonalitic and trondhjemitic compositions were produced. High-Al basalt produced liquids too high in Al₂O₃ for such compositions. Suitability of studies and chemical aspects of magmas are discussed.
