Record #115243:

Primary production and organic matter destruction in Spitsbergen tundra / Krzysztof W. Opaliński.

Title: Primary production and organic matter destruction in Spitsbergen tundra / Krzysztof W. Opaliński.
Author(s): Opaliński, Krzysztof W.
Date: 1991.
In: Polish Polar Research. (1991.), Vol. 12(3) (1991)
Abstract: In Fugleberget catchment area (Spitsbergen, Hornsund Fjord) growing season lasted 95 days, beginning under snow. Shoots of moss Calliergon stramineum reached mean length of 19 mm and mean mass of 0.593 mg dry weight. Annual primary production of moss communities amounts to 220-270 g dry weight per square metre per year. In first year of destruction, dead plant material lost 30-45% of initial value; after 10 years, ca 25% of initial organic was left.
