Record #115010:

SAR processing in the presence of volume scattering from glacial ice / Ralph E. Mader, S. Gogineni.

Title: SAR processing in the presence of volume scattering from glacial ice / Ralph E. Mader, S. Gogineni.
Author(s): Mader, Ralph E.
Gogineni, S.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: Lawrence, KS: University of Kansas Center for Research Inc., Radar Systems and Remote Sensing Laboratory
Abstract: In contrast to most of Earth's surface, EM remote sensing of glacial ice can be hampered by volume scattering deep within glacier. Glacial ice is relatively transparent to microwaves at P- and L-band frequencies. EM waves can penetrate 1000 m or more before being backscattered with enough strength to contribute significantly to return at SAR. Discusses why special processing is required by SAR to handle returns from glacial ice.
