Abstract: Focuses on subsistence activities of Eskimos in northwestern Alaska as practised in mid- to late- nineteenth century. Describes yearly subsistence round between coast, rivers, inland spruce forests and tundra with emphasis on winter and early spring periods of extreme scarcity when Eskimos moved to coast to hunt ringed seal through ice.
