Title: | Modelling of snowdrift around prismatic buildings for Antarctic environment / D.H. Kim, K.C.S. Kwok, D.J. Smedley, H.F. Rohde. |
Author(s): | Kim, D. H. Kwok, K. C. S. Smedley, D. J. Rohde, H. F. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | Golden, CO: International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE) |
In: | Proceedings of the First (1991) International Offshore and Polar Engineering Conference. Vol. 2. Computer technology, ROV and control, risers, mooring and cables, pipelines, international polar research, ice, structures and scour ... held at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, The United Kingdom, 11-16 August 1991. (1991.), |
Abstract: | Examines similarity criteria, especially time scaling for physical modelling of snow drifts in wind tunnel. Iversen's (1980) proposed dimensionless time, which includes scaling of particle and fluid densities, Froude number, particle threshold speed, mean wind speed, time and length, produced reasonable correlation of snow-drift accumulation rate between model and prototype. Dimensions of buildings also investigated. Results used to formulate design guidelines for buildings in Antarctica. |
