Evaluation of pack melting effect on polychlorobiphenyl content in sea water samples from Terra Nova Bay - Ross Sea (Antarctica) / Roger Fuoco, M. Perla Colombini, Carlo Abete.
Title: | Evaluation of pack melting effect on polychlorobiphenyl content in sea water samples from Terra Nova Bay - Ross Sea (Antarctica) / Roger Fuoco, M. Perla Colombini, Carlo Abete. |
Author(s): | Fuoco, Roger. Colombini, M. Perla. Abete, Carlo. |
Date: | 1991. |
Abstract: | Total contents of PCBs in samples collected in summer 1988-89 are reported, together with individual PCB isomer concentrations. Results showed typical value of 0.6 ng l⁻¹ as total PCB concentration with temporary local increase up to 1.7 ng l⁻¹, which may be due to pack ice melting. Increase could be explained in terms of slight pollution extending on large area of pack ice in Gerlache Inlet, due partially to activities at nearby Italian base. After ice melt, pollution would be transferred to surface sea water. |
