Record #114573:
Icebreaker midbody resistance phase 3 / David M. Baker, Tris Orendorff, John Hartleib.
Title: | Icebreaker midbody resistance phase 3 / David M. Baker, Tris Orendorff, John Hartleib. |
Author(s): | Baker, David M. Orendorff, Tris. Hartleib, John. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | Montreal: Transport Canada, Transportation Development Centre |
Abstract: | Object was to evaluate parametric influence of length, breadth, length/breadth ratio and bow form on resistence of hull form to ice. First part reviews tests at model scale and compares new analysis approach to previous work. Relationships between resistance and friction are also established. Second part scales each model to displacement of 30 000 tonnes, which was accomplished by using target ice thickness and strength that resulted in ship of 30 000 tonnes in ice 1 m thick at resistance 500 kPa. |
