Record #114340:

Frozen earth cofferdam design / Joseph Anthony Sopko, Jr, John A. Shuster, Orlando B. Andersland.

Title: Frozen earth cofferdam design / Joseph Anthony Sopko, Jr, John A. Shuster, Orlando B. Andersland.
Author(s): Sopko, Joseph Anthony,
Shuster, John A.
Andersland, Orlando B.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Ground Freezing 91. Proceedings of the Sixth International Symposium on Ground Freezing, Beijing, 10-12 September 1991. Vol. 1. (1991.),
Abstract: Structures designed to transfer storm water from surface collector systems to deep large-diameter tunnels pass through several types of subsurface soils in Milwaukee, WI, area. Ground freezing was used for temporary support during excavation and construction. Required specialized computational methods to account for time-, stress-, and temperature-dependent material behaviour and adfreeze bond between frozen soil and reinforcement members. Analysis showed clearly where modiifications in design were needed.
