Abstract: Following brief historical account of Royal Greenland Company from origins in 1600s and formal establishment in 1776, examines its monopolistic role in overseas trade and factory production with regard to private capital investment and virtually total domination of all administration in Greenland until colonial rule was restructured in 1908. Empahsizes company's role as protector of native people.
