Record #113865:

Crushing friction experiments on freshwater ice / R.E. Gagnon, John Mølgaard.

Title: Crushing friction experiments on freshwater ice / R.E. Gagnon, John Mølgaard.
Author(s): Gagnon, R. E.
Mølgaard, John.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: Berlin: Springer
In: Ice-Structure Interaction. IUTAM/IAHR Symposium, St. John's, Newfoundland Canada 1989. (1991.),
Abstract: Specially designed hydraulically driven friction apparatus used to measure friction forces on specimens of fresh-water ice against steel surface under crushing loads at various temperatures. Friction coefficient found to be decreasing function of increasing sliding speed and temperature, and did not appear to be influenced by fabric, texture, or presence of bubbles. No correlation between normal load and coefficient of friction. Evidence that crushing friction has higher coefficient than non-crushing; possible mechanisms discussed. Periodic crushing evident. Discussion, p. 419-421.
