Record #113538:
Palaeoenvironments of the Nordenskjöld Formation: an Antarctic Late Jurassic--Early Cretaceous black shale-tuff sequence / Peter Doyle, Andrew G. Whitham.
Title: | Palaeoenvironments of the Nordenskjöld Formation: an Antarctic Late Jurassic--Early Cretaceous black shale-tuff sequence / Peter Doyle, Andrew G. Whitham. |
Author(s): | Doyle, Peter. Whitham, Andrew G. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | [London]: Geological Society |
Abstract: | Documents palaeoenvironments of a Jurassic--Cretaceous boundary black shale--tuff sequence exposed on east coast of Antarctic Peninsula. Sedimentological and palaeontological evidence indicate primarily anaerobic conditions during deposition of lower part of succession and increasing levels of dissolved oxygen during upper part of succession. Upward changes in formation attributed to tectonic uplift of sea floor, through a pycnocline. |
Notes: | Offprint: Modern and ancient continental shelf anoxia / R.V. Tyson, T.H. Pearson, eds. |
