| Abstract: | Concerned with current status of four species occupying pack-ice region surrounding Antarctic continent: crabeater Lobodon carcinophagus, leopard Hydrurga leptonyx, Weddell Leptonychotes weddelli, and Ross Ommatophoca rossii, unexploited species which have been proposed as monitors or indicators of ecosystem change. Discusses concerns and problems associated with using population parameters in this fashion. |
