Record #113474:
The paleoclimatic setting of the Late Paleozoic marine ice sheet in the Karoo Basin of southern Africa / Johan N.J. Visser.
Title: | The paleoclimatic setting of the Late Paleozoic marine ice sheet in the Karoo Basin of southern Africa / Johan N.J. Visser. |
Author(s): | Visser, Johan N. J. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | Boulder, CO: Geological Society of America |
In: | Glacial marine sedimentation; paleoclimatic significance. (1991.), |
Abstract: | Evidence exists for continuum of polar to temperate climatic settings during Permo-Carboniferous glaciation in Dwyka Basin. Ancient glaciomarine sequences cannot be defined simply as having polar, subpolar or temperate settings. In terms of sediment volume, Dwyka Formation was deposited during warmer subpolar spells, related to high sea levels, alternating with severe polar conditions. |
