| Abstract: | Brief overview of current assements of damage resulting from emissions of sulphur, nickel, copper, etc. from Kola Peninsula. In mid-1980s attention turned to health of Lapland's forests. Network of permanent sample plots was set up and severe defoliation of Scots Pine was found. Sulphur from Kola Peninsula was seen in effect on lichensand lack of intolerant species. Nickel and copper concentrations on an epiphytic lichen was highest in eastern areas. Canker attack on Scots Pine was another factor in increasing research, as was more accurate knowledge of pollution in Kola Peninsula. |
