Record #113135:

Weathering by segregation ice growth in microcracks at sustained sub-zero temperatures: verification from an experimental study using acoustic emissions / B. Hallet, J.S. Walker, C.W. Stubbs.

Title: Weathering by segregation ice growth in microcracks at sustained sub-zero temperatures: verification from an experimental study using acoustic emissions / B. Hallet, J.S. Walker, C.W. Stubbs.
Author(s): Hallet, B.
Walker, J. S.
Stubbs, C. W.
Date: 1991.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1991.), Vol. 2(4) (1991)
Abstract: Presents acoustic emission results from series of unidirectional freezing experiments with single specimen of sandstone while internal temperatures and temperature gradients were held constant in time. As experimental results provide strong support for segregation ice model of frost weathering, geomorphic implications of model are discussed. Plea is made for more fundamental and unified view of frost weathering and related phenomena.
