Record #112998:

Shape, length and flow conditions of conduits at South Cascade Glacier, Washington state, U.S.A. / Andrew G. Fountain.

Title: Shape, length and flow conditions of conduits at South Cascade Glacier, Washington state, U.S.A. / Andrew G. Fountain.
Author(s): Fountain, Andrew G.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: Saskatoon: National Hydrology Research Institute
In: Northern hydrology : selected perspectives. Proceedings of the Northern Hydrology Symposium 10-12 July 1990, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. (1991.),
Abstract: Tracers were injected into glacier to estimate geometry of flow system from travel time and dispersion of tracers. Found that glacier is divided into two main basins; each is drained by single stream. Mean velocity and dispersion of tracers are significantly different in each basin. Hypothesizes that one stream drains from isolated conduit and daily meltwater in ablation zone reaches conduit directly through englacial channels. Other stream drains distributed subglacial network of interconnected paths such as linked cavities or permeable debris.
