Record #112997:

A physical model of ice overthrust during the break-up of intact river-ice covers / Michael N. Demuth, Terry D. Prowse.

Title: A physical model of ice overthrust during the break-up of intact river-ice covers / Michael N. Demuth, Terry D. Prowse.
Author(s): Demuth, Michael N.
Prowse, Terry D.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: Saskatoon: National Hydrology Research Institute
In: Northern hydrology : selected perspectives. Proceedings of the Northern Hydrology Symposium 10-12 July 1990, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. (1991.),
Abstract: Discusses range of characteristics and processes that could lead to irregularities or flaws in river-ice sheet that would, in turn, lead to overthrust flexural failure along brash-ice fronts. Also discusses levels of downstream forcing required to initiate such failure. Shows that overthrust flexural-failure processes induced by cover variability require significantly lower downstream forcing than those required to fail homogeneous cover in elastic buckling.
