Abstract: | Interesting correlations revealed by analysis of long-term trends in tree-ring growth in these areas. Years with unusually great tree-ring growth in Polar Urals correlate with high frequency of occurrence of low-pressure systems over Kara Sea, which cause warm dry air flow over Polar Urals, resulting in heavy ablation of IGAN glacier; these conditions also correlate with little sea ice in Kara Sea. By contrast, years with limited tree-ring growth correlate with pressure systems giving rise to northerly winds, heavy cloud, and heavy summer snowfall, resulting in reduced ablation on Polar Urals and severe sea ice in Kara Sea. Similar correlations are demonstrated in southern Tyan'-Shan'. |
