| Abstract: | Direct sea-ice exchange between Arctic Basin and Baffin Bay occurs only via Nares Strait. Ice from Arctic Basin entering Sverdrup Basin and Parry Channel does not penetrate east of 90 to 95°W. Seasonal progress of ice discharge within straits of archipelago is clearly marked, but no definite trends are revealed in interannual variations. Total annual discharges of ice from basin into straits comprise only 10 to 15% of discharge through Fram Strait, but rate is similar in summer months. This illustrates need to take into account ice exchange between basin and straits when investigating their hydrometeorological regime. |
