Record #112846:

Monitoring global snow cover / Richard L. Armstrong, Molly Hardman.

Title: Monitoring global snow cover / Richard L. Armstrong, Molly Hardman.
Author(s): Armstrong, Richard L.
Hardman, Molly.
Date: 1991.
In: Western Snow Conference. Proceedings. (1991.), Vol. 59th Annual Meeting (1991)
Abstract: Describes methodology developed by National Snow and Ice Data Center for use by US Air Force Global Weather Central (AFGWC). Model supports daily operational analysis of global snow depth and age, and represents state-of-the-art system with respect to data available at AFGWC. Provides spatial interpolation of surface reports by incorporating digital elevation data by application of regionalized variables (kriging) and through use of global snow-depth climatology. Where surface observations are inadequate, model applies satellite remote sensing. Techniques for extrapolation into data-void mountain areas and procedure to compute snow melt are also contained in model.
